How many seasons of Outlander will there be?

Sony and Starz announced in January 2023 that they had renewed Outlander for and 8th and final season. However, they have also green lit a prequel show based on the lives of Jamie’s parents.

Watch our blog for up-to-date news on that front.

Where can I watch Outlander?

Outlander can always be found via Starz through any service you currently have. You can subscribe via Amazon Prime, AppleTV, Hulu, YouTubeTV and any cable or dish service you are currently subscribed too. You can also subscribe to the Starz app on most devices.

Currently, you can watch some of the seasons on Netflix with more coming.

If you would like to use Starz via your Amazon Prime, rather than using the app, search out Outlander and when you click into watch Amazon will have you opt into Amazon’s Starz channel. This will bring you Outlander and other Starz content straight to your Amazon Prime account.

You can change or cancel all Amazon Prime channels from your Manage You Prime Video Channels section of your account.

Please use our Amazon Prime Starz link to help Outlander Watch make a little money from Amazon.

Are they doing a book per season?

Starz started with a book a season and did this through Season 4, however, as the books get longer the executive producers starting breaking the books up.

Season 5 had brought up things from both books 4, 5 & 6. I think the writers are going to start using what they can when the need arises, not out of a lack of material but more of a sense that they appear to want to use scenes but have to make them fit.

By the end of season 5 we were part way into book 6. Season 6 took mostly from book 6 but didn’t complete the book due to the necessity of cutting the season down to 8 episodes. Season 7 will be 16 episodes long. No doubt it will cover book 6 and 7.

Since the show will end with season 8; which will focus heavily on book 9 Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.

Will the actors be changed as the characters age?

No. Executive producers have already said they have no plans to get new actors. It was hard enough for them to find Sam, Cait, Sophie and Richard.

The only actors likely to change with time will be children (Jem, Germain, Willie, etc).

How many episode will there be in the season?

Season 1: 16 episodes

Season 2: 13 episodes

Season 3: 13 episodes

Season 4: 13 episodes

Season 5: 12 episodes

Season 6: 8 episodes

Season 7: 16 episodes

Season 8: TBA

Is there a 9th book coming out?

Yes, book 9, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, is available now. There will likely be at least one more book though I think Diana has said she’s thinks there may be more.

Outlander fans tend to abbreviate the book titles, what are the abbreviations?

I don’t know if they are official but fans tend to abbreviate the books as follows:
+ Outlander (O)
+ Dragonfly in Amber (DiA)
+ Voyager (V)
+ Drums of Autumn (DoA)
+ The Fiery Cross (TFC)
+ A Breath of Snow and Ashes (ABOSAA or Ashes)
+ An Echo in the Bone (Echo)
+ Written In My Own Heart’s Blood (Mohb)
+ Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone (Bees)
+ Lord John and the Private Matter (LJPM)
+ Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade (LJBB)
+ Lord John and the Hand of Devils (LJHD)

I personally tend to call the Outlander books:

Outlander
Dragonfly
Voyager
Drums
FC
Ashes
Echo
Heart’s Blood
Bees

I love the show and want to read the books, what order do I read them in?

Please check out the Book section in our Shop section. You will find the books numbered there.

Are Sam and Cait dating?

No. Cait is married. Cait and her husband recently welcomed their child to their family. She was pregnant during the filming of Season 6. We wholeheartedly congratulate Cait and her husband on the expansion of their family.

Sam and Cait are co-workers and friends. The characters they play are married. They only portray these characters. They are not really Jamie and Claire.

What is the 'We Stand With Sam' about?

In April of 2020, amid the covid-19 debacle, many fans were giving Sam a hard time for being stuck in Hawaii. He had flown there before the shutdown and was being harassed by people pretending to be fans.

Sam spoke out about continually being harassed (and his co-stars) because when asked things about himself; his answers were not taken at face value and was continually called a liar. Sam, his co-stars, his friends and family were all subjected to slurs, harassment, threats and much more. When Sam came out about the harassment many of us true fans were aghast at the treatment he’d endured and we’d assured him we would stand by him and report such action.

We still do.
