Starting May 27, 2019 anyone with a Netflix account will be able to watch seasons 1 & 2 of Outlander. Exciting news for Netflix subscribers but what does this mean for the future of Outlander.
It could mean a couple of things. First, Starz is putting their product out for the masses to bring in more viewers. This is something AMC did with Breaking Bad after it’s second season to gain more viewers and it worked. Like Outlander, Breaking Bad was bringing in about a million viewers per episode before hitting Netflix. Season three brought in 10 million plus viewers. So it is possible Starz is looking to gain viewers with this unprecedented release of their content.
Second, they are looking for a new home for Outlander’s future. This is one I don’t like to think about but should Starz not being willing to commit to more Outlander after the sixth season it is possible they are looking to get Netflix to buy it. I’m hoping Outlander’s future is that up in the air but should Netflix buy we all know they are willing to put money into shows. Netflix would be a good home to Outlander but I’m also unwilling to hope for the senario in case Netflix is only in the business of air previously made episodes.
Let’s all hope for the best and get everyone who isn’t willing to buy into Starz now to watch Outlander on Netflix. Pass the word along.
