Claire joins the MacKenzie rent-collecting trip. To her horror, Dougal uses Jamie’s scars to gain sympathy for the Jacobite cause. Claire recalls that a defining moment in Scottish history is fast approaching.
As the Castle prepares for The Gathering, Claire plots her escape. But after a dangerous encounter with a drunken Dougal and an unexpected run-in with Jamie, her plans are dashed.
So, here is the story on the red shoes.
No, I did not go out and get 18th century shoes that would draw a link to the Wizard Of Oz. I wish I had, it’s a great idea!
Claire decides to use her medical skills to aid her escape from Castle Leoch – with Jamie’s help, she tends to an ill child. During an evening’s entertainment, a story gives Claire hope for her freedom.
Claire is taken to meet the Laird. As suspicions about her grow, Claire befriends the mysterious Geillis Duncan. When the clan discover her medical skills, Claire goes from guest to prisoner.
So in spite of being at the San Diego premiere and also attending an advanced screening of Outlander Episode 101 last Wednesday, I was also one of the many Outlanders who tuned into Starz at 12:01 August 2 to watch the first Outlander episode yet again. On my initial viewing of the episode titled “Sassenach”, I was only able to pick out a couple of words of the Gàidhlig dialogue. However, after several more viewings (more than 5 but less than 10, but who’s counting?), I have come up with the following list of Gàidhlig I believe I have been able to understand. There is absolutely no guarantee that it is correct and I am quite sure some of the grammar is likely incorrect. 🙂 For words that I could find audio pronunciation files, I have linked them.
While returning from visiting Rev. Wakefield, Frank comes upon a Scottish man looking up at Claire’s window watching her. When Frank approaches the man turns and walks away and then disappears. Frank could see the movement of the man’s kilt but felt nothing when he approached. He is almost sure he saw a ghost.
Who is the ghost and why is he there?
Claire’s jeweled watch is damaged. She travels from 1946 to 1743 approximately 202-203 years depending on the time of year.
How was she able to travel?
While on her honeymoon, WWII combat nurse Claire Randall is mysteriously transported back to 1743 Scotland, where she is kidnapped by a group of Highlanders – and meets an injured young man named Jamie.
Claire and Frank witness women in bed sheets dancing around the standing stones at Craigh na Dun. They don’t know why they are doing it but watch in fascination.
Why do they dance?
Outlandish Observations: ABC’s of the OUTLANDER TV Series.
Some of you may recall my ABC’s of Jamie Fraser and ABC’s of Claire Fraser posts from several years ago. I thought it would be fun to do a similar post for the OUTLANDER TV series. Hope you enjoy it!
A for the Anticipation among OUTLANDER fans all over the world, and the immensely talented Actors who are bringing the TV series to life.
B for Breathtakingly Beautiful views of the Scottish Highlands. I’m sure the scenery will be magnificent!
The other day, a Variety reporter wrote an article about 12 cable shows that are coming out this year. (I wouldn’t click on the link only because it’ll increase her page views and that’s not the idea I want to give. Just keep reading.)
One of the shows on her list was “Outlander”, a highly anticipated show that will hopefully turn into multiple seasons. Instead of trying to sell her readers into tuning in, she managed to insult them. According to Saval, the author of the article, she describes it: “This new series is based on the internationally bestselling novels by Diana Gabaldon that bored middle-age housewives have been going absolutely bananas over.”
Has Starz’s “Outlander” series found its Jamie Fraser in Scotsman Sam Heughan?
The official Starz Twitter account confirmed as much on Friday with the tweet: “It’s #FollowFriday here at #STARZ. Follow Sam Heughan (@Heughan) who will play the role of Jamie Fraser in #OutlanderSTARZ.”
