Fires in California

I’m rather behind in everything Outlander. Things were falling behind before Labor Day weekend with work obligations but September 2 through everything off. We woke to thunderstorms in California which happens but not very often in the Sierra Nevada foothills where I live. So it was a refreshing surprise to have some Summer rain.

But it turned bad. Despite what reports say, the 2-7 fire which is part of the TCU September Lightning Complex sparked by lightning strike around 12 noon (we think there were multiple strikes that resulted in this fire now). Above is where the fire started which is next door to work and my families property (I don’t live there but my mom does).

California Highway Patrol rolled up minutes later telling us a fast moving wildfire was moving towards us and we had to leave now. We grabbed our stuff, left everything running (at work) and went up the property to get my mom and her cat out.

We fled to the nearby town where I live and waited. Our families property consists of a couple homes and a few work buildings. None of these buildings burned. None. Fire burned up to 2 homes and 2 other structures where it was stopped. But as you can see the hillside above is black. The fire managed to go over this hill and is now trapped in a ravine like area on the other. It seems like it is a hard place to get firefighters, except on foot, but they are managing to get some containment finally. And despite what new reports say the fires is only about 600 acres which is relatively small in California. It has just been a persistent fire because of rugged terrain.

We were let back into our work yesterday and are now surrounded by firefighters and highway patrol as they coordinate efforts from our property. We are total happy to have them as they’ve been amazing and fantastic at their jobs; preventing any building loss in our fire.

However, other communities around us have not been so lucky. Dozens of wildfires were started by lightning on September 2 and one community in Tuolumne County lost homes, businesses and historic Gold Rush buildings.

I just wanted to all to know that we are safe and hopefully I can get caught up on everything Outlander.
