Knox questions Jamie’s opinions which are that they are all united in their aim of protection to those they’ve sworn to defend. Jamie seems like he’s referring to his own men though to Knox it sounds like he’s on the side of the Tories. Knox appears to admire Jamie.
On the road, Ronnie Sinclair comes racing towards them. He was scouting ahead and has come back to report the Regulators were in Hillsborough rioting.
In Hillsborough Jamie and Knox find the remains of a riot and Jamie notices Edmund Fanning leaving a building and calls him over. Jamie is shocked and tells Knox he executed a man without trial. Knox seems horrified but Jamie covers for him.
In the tavern, Knox is suggesting Jamie call for reinforcements. Jamie thinks there is room for leniency especially for what Knox did. Knox has a moment of regret where he fears he’s as bad as those he’s after. Jamie suggests he make amends and ensure a fair trial for the other but Knox knows they will be found guilty. His regret changes to some kind of pride for giving MacKinnon and soldiers death.
