Young Ian’s Abduction

Needing funds to pay Laoghaire her alimony, Jamie decides to take stones from the Selkie Island treasure (The Frenchman’s Gold). He can’t swim out there with an injured arm (Laoghaire shot him) so Young Ian is recruited.

At the shore, Jamie and Claire watch as Young Ian swims out to the island and then watch as a ship approaches and men capture Young Ian and take him aboard. The two look on helplessly as Young Ian is kidnapped.

Obviously someone knows about the treasure and they took Young Ian. Who is after the Frenchman’s Gold?

Second Trip & Gem Stones

Brianna gives Claire a topaz necklace for the passage through the stones. Claire comments that she had on a jeweled watch when she went through the first time and Jamie’s father’s ring when she went through the second time.

Margaret Campbell’s Fortune

When Claire goes to visit Margaret Campbell, Margaret has a “vision” and tells Claire:

“Gleep, gleep. Gleep, gleep. D’ye hear ’em? D’ye hear the tree toads lullaby? And the moon — the moon be chokin’ wi’ blood. Ye must be careful, Abandawe will devour ye. Abandawe, Abandawe. Abandawe…”

This ends up referring to the standing stones in Jamaica. Margaret is warning Claire about the passage through the stones. One can assume the “chokin’ wi’ blood” could refer to Geillis’s death.

Them Bones

Joe Abernathy is looking over some bones for a friend and gets Claire involved in the “investigation.” Claire touches the bones and says they are a “150 year murder victim.” Joe tells her she’s about 50 years off meaning the bones are 200 years old. These bones were of a white woman found in a cave in Jamaica.

This is a lot of information about bones for them not to mean something.

Paul Revere’s Ride

Brianna’s professor tells her history class that Paul Revere did not complete his ride because he was captured by the Redcoats and a fellow rider named Prescott completed their mission to warn of the British arrival. However, he did complete part of his ride.

On April 18, 1775, Paul Revere was instructed by the Sons of Liberty to ride to Lexington, Massachusetts, to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock about the British troops movements. He accomplished this mission. It was on the way to Concord to warn patriots there; he and his compatriots, were stopped at by the very British soldiers they were warning Adams and Hancock about. Revere was captured and questioned. The British brought him back to Lexington but left him alone when they heard the gunshots from the Battle of Lexington Green. Revere found John Hancock and his family and helped them escape Lexington with a trunk full of incriminating papers.

The Buzzing of the Stones

Brianna tells Claire after Geillis goes through the stones that she heard them. Both Claire and Brianna hear the stones. Roger also appears to have heard the stones. This seems to be an indication you have the ability to travel.

Initially, when Claire went through the stones there was a strange buzzing sound.

Battle of Culloden

Jamie and Claire set out to stop the Battle of Culloden by sabotaging Bonnie Prince Charlie. On the eve of the battle, Claire and Jamie even discuss killing Charles Stuart and are overheard by Dougal who attacks and dies by Jamie’s hand.

Jamie knows he can’t stop the battle but he can save Claire by sending her back to Frank.

Claire wondered if they could change history. They didn’t manage. Is it impossible? Or is it that a war has too many variables to prevent?

Roger’s Ancestor

Claire tells Roger he is related to Geillis Duncan who she met after traveling back to 1743. Geillis was to be burned as a witch after she gave birth to the child she carried. Claire knew the child was Dougal’s and tells Roger his genealogical chart is wrong when it gets back to that point in history and that he is the descendant of Geillis Duncan and Dougal MacKenzie.

Frank’s Ancestry

Claire believed Jack Randall was Frank’s direct ancestor (that is what Frank believed) but after the dual with Jamie was left unable to father children. This caused Claire to believe they could change history and Frank wouldn’t be born.

In Edinburgh, Claire discovered Alex Randall and Mary together. Mary confesses to being pregnant with Alex’s child. On Alex’s deathbed he asks Jack to marry Mary and protect her with his name.

Star Chamber

Claire goes to Mother Hildegarde to seek audience with the King hoping to free Jamie after his illegal duel. The King takes her to the Star Chamber where he informs her both St. Germain and Raymond are being tried for sorcery.

Claire puts some bitter cascara into some wine and gives it to Raymond who doubles over and then steadies himself. When he hands back the cup, Claire’s necklace changes from white to black and the Comte knows it is poison. Raymond has used sleight of hand to really poison the wine. The Comte stalls but is commanding by the King to drink. When he does, he falls over dead much to the satisfaction of the King and Raymond. Raymond is sent from France while Claire is taken to the bedchamber for Louis payment.

Who exactly is Master Raymond?

While at the Royal Stud Farm, Annalise points out to Claire there is a man starring at her. When she turns to see it is Jack Randall who waxes poetic about encountering her there. The King chats with Claire and mocks Randall eventually getting him on his knees to beg for the release of his brother from the Bastille. Claire asks the King if she may take her leave because she’s not feeling well and the King grants her and Jamie leave with concern.

After the King leaves, Jamie goes back to Randall and arranges a duel where he plans to kill Randall.

Claire doesn’t want this because she believes if Jack Randall dies then Frank will never be born.

Hidden Message

Jamie and Claire enlist the help of Mother Hildegarde to help them decode a message:

“I have successfully concluded negotiations with our three partners, all of whom are willing to contribute to our cause. I can guarantee the ant of £40,000 will be made available to you. I will be back in Paris at the month’s end, and am eager to finally meet you face-to-face to solidify our arrangement. S”

Returning & Steering

Claire left Jamie in 1746 and returned to Frank in 1947. That is a 202 year difference.

She traveled with Jamie’s father’s ring and it was missing the stone when she got to 1948.

Geillis/Gillian goes through the stones in 1968 and clearly travels back more than 203 years because she’s there before Claire. We don’t know if she got there 1 or 5 years before but if she got there 5 minutes before then she went back 225 years. Clearly she was there enough time to establish herself and seduce Arthur Duncan into marriage so I’d guess 230 years.

Geillis Duncan

Geillis and Claire are arrested and charged with witchcraft. Claire realizes Geillis poisoned Arthur so she could be free to marry Dougal whose child she is carrying. Claire realizes the Jacobite cause is what brought the two together. Geillis says, “I only regret I have but one life to lose for my country,” which Claire recognizes as Nathan Hale’s famous last words from the American Revolution.

In the courtroom, the two are declared witches. Geillis tells Claire she thinks it is possible (meaning return to the future) and then 1-9-6-8. Geillis announces she’s a witch and Claire is innocent. She confesses to killing Arthur and then pulls down her dress to reveal a “mark of the devil” which Claire realizes is a vaccination scar and realizes Geillis is from 1968.

Geillis is also a time traveler!

Geillis Druid Ritual

Claire goes in search for Geillis and finds her in the woods doing a druid/pagan ritual. Claire notices the similarities to the dancers at the stones. Claire watches on as Geillis dances noticing Geillis is pregnant. When Geillis finish’s her ritual she calls for Claire to come out. Claire confronts Geillis about the pregnancy. Geillis tells Claire not even Arthur knows and when Claire asks how that is possible Geillis tells her Arthur hasn’t seen her out of her cloths. Geillis confesses that Dougal is her love and the child is his. Geillis tells Claire her ritual or summoning is to ask for Dougal and her freedom from their respective marriages.

What is the connection to the dancing similar to that of the stone dancers?
