Is It Faith or Not?

Are you a fan of the Faith possibly having lived story-line?

I am and I not. I do NOT want to learn Faith lived somehow and Jamie and Claire were not involved in raising her. The assumption would be Master Raymond took Faith or replaced her body with another infant and somehow brought her back to life? Why would Master Raymond essentially kidnap Faith? Because even if he went to Faith and somehow revived her; if Jane and Fanny’s mother is Faith Fraser then she was kidnapped.

Let’s say Faith didn’t die. Let’s say somehow Master Raymond brought her back to life. What is the purpose? Why take Faith from Jamie and Claire?

But then there is the flip of it. What if it isn’t really Faith? Why make Jamie and Claire believe it is possible? Let’s look at possible reasoning.

1. What if the baby wasn’t Faith?

Claire held Faith for a great deal of time. If that baby was, indeed, Faith then there was no way to revive her (even with magic). She was gone for way too long to survive. This implies the baby that was given to Claire to hold wasn’t Faith but another baby that had died. While I would deem that possible of many; there is no way Mother Hildegarde did that to Claire.

So what would be the reasoning? He takes Faith and magically heals her to raise on his own? In the book and kind of in the show, Master Raymond heals Claire magically after Faith’s birth. But Claire is alive and can be saved.

What would be the purpose of kidnapping Faith and keeping her away from Jamie and Claire? We assume Master Raymond is also a time traveler. I’m not sure the show made that clear. But if you’ve read the books, you know he is. When Young Ian returns from the Mohawk., he brings with him a journal written by Robert Springer aka Otter-Tooth. We learn a man named Raymond assisted the Montauk Five (Wendigo Donner, Otter Tooth and 3 others) on how to use the stones to travel. So we know he’s involved in directing the lives of other time travelers.

But, I don’t think Master Raymond would take Claire’s child. From the moment they met, Master Raymond liked Claire. We learn throughout the course of the books that Master Raymond is from around 400 B.C. He’s traveled time extensively and has had children. Claire is one of his descendants. Throughout he has protected Claire where he could. Kidnapping her child would be harming her. I don’t see him doing it.

As we watch Claire and Raymond interact in A Hundred Thousand Angels, we think Raymond has come maybe to heal her again. When she speaks to Jamie we gather it is a dream. I’m not sure if it was a dream or not but we know Claire’s power will grow as she ages (Common Ground). Maybe they are able to communicate or maybe it actually happened. Raymond gives the cryptic message that they will meet again and to have faith. Just because he said it doesn’t mean he was dropping a hint about Faith.

2. Time Traveling and Prophecy

But then if it is Faith why take her? Maybe, Master Raymond knew something about Jamie and Claire’s destiny. In hindsight, Jamie and Claire have accomplished or been involved in a lot. Would that have happened if they were traveling around with a child? Maybe and maybe not. Here nor there really. I mean we could speculate that Jamie and Claire might have been putting a child in danger with all they got up to but maybe their choices would have been very different.

What if Faith couldn’t travel? What if Faith took after Jamie and couldn’t travel through the stones. Then when Jamie wanted Claire to flee after Culloden she could have gone through the stones but Faith couldn’t. Claire not knowing would have prevented her from going through as Faith would have been very young. BUT if she did know that Faith couldn’t hear the stones and therefore couldn’t travel; Claire definitely wouldn’t have gone back. And Claire would have died giving birth to Brianna, IF Brianna was even conceived by this point (which chances are she would have been).

What would have happened to Claire and Jamie and everything they’ve done if Claire had died in the past giving birth to Brianna?

We know there is a prophecy about the Fraser line and a 200 year old child; which Geillis Duncan believes is Brianna. Does Master Raymond believe the same thing? Is he somehow involved in this weird Jacobite prophecy? Or is it simply him playing puppet master with a lineage which I believe he might be a part of.

AND if something had happened to Claire and/or Brianna then what would that future look like. If Claire and Bree had died during childbirth it would be awful and the future for Jamie would have been bleak. But had Brianna survived and Claire has not, then where is Roger, Jemmy and Mandy? They all have their part so far. So maybe Master Raymond is directing something???

3. Master Raymond’s child

What if “Faith” or Jane and Fanny’s mother isn’t Faith Fraser? What if Master Raymond took the name and gave it to another child. Maybe one he was invested in. Maybe his own child. Master Raymond seems to have been surrounded by people wanting to kill or harm him and there is the whole thing with King Louis XV and the star chamber. Maybe being the child of Raymond wasn’t such a safe thing.

Is it possible Raymond used Faith’s name to hide a child? I wouldn’t put it past the man.

NEXT THEORY CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR BLOOD OF MY BLOOD SEASON ONE!!!!

4. Is Jane and Fanny’s Mom Related to Claire but Not Faith

Is Jane and Fanny’s mother named Faith? I am not sure we are told this. What we are told is Fanny has her mother’s locket that says Faith on it. Doesn’t actually mean it was her name. It is possible it just says Faith—like Love or Hope—but isn’t actually and indication of name. Not that she still couldn’t be named Faith and it NOT be Faith Fraser.

BUT what if, as implied by Blood of My Blood, this person who we are thinking is Faith is actually related to Claire in the form of an ancestor. In Blood of My Blood Julia and Henry have a son. At this point all we know is Claire has a baby brother but not whether the baby could travel—though all signs would point to yes considering Julia and Henry both can—or that he ever makes it back to the future.

If said child stays in the past. If Julia or Henry teach their baby William the song “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside” perhaps that is who taught this woman the song. Maybe this “Faith” is actually Claire’s great-niece.

This is why I don’t think it is Faith Fraser. Even if Jane and Fanny’s mother is named Faith, it seems more than outlandish that it is the daughter of Jamie and Claire.

5. How Does the Song Come Into Play

I think it is possible Jane’s family could be related to Raymond and it is possible this is alluding to Claire’s relationship to Raymond as well. Let’s think about this for a moment.

Master Raymond was at L’Hopital Des Anges at some point while Claire was there as a patient. He could have been present when Claire was singing to Faith. After healing her, it is possible he came back to check on her and heard the song. I think Raymond is related to Claire. When Raymond heals Claire both times there is a blue light and then we see Claire this season heal a baby. She says there is a blue light that flowed out of her. BUT Jamie didn’t see it. I have to wonder if only time travelers can see the blue light.

We have no idea who taught Claire the song. “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside” was written in 1907. Claire was born in 1918. We don’t know if Claire encountered Raymond as a child or if her parents sang that song to her. Or if it was Uncle Lamb. Wouldn’t it be interesting if on all her travels with Uncle Lamb, she actually met Raymond.

Granted it is possible Claire just learned the song because she heard it and liked it but then my assumption would be Raymond heard Claire sing it or taught it to her.

Just because Faith Pocock knew the song doesn’t mean it came from Claire. Maybe it came from another time traveler say Claire brother. Maybe Raymond also liked the song? Maybe Faith Pocock’s from another descendant of Raymond and knew the song also?

Maybe, as a time traveler, Raymond knew what would happen to the Pocock family and has somehow steered them toward Jamie and Claire; planting the song as a way to connect them somehow. If these people were somehow important to Raymond or related to Claire (and therefore Raymond) maybe he pushed them all together.

Conclusion

I’m sure there is something I’ve missed. But I really don’t want Jane and Fanny’s mother to be Faith Fraser. It seems so out there. Yes, we are talking about a family of time travelers but saying a child who died didn’t just seems too much.

Also, I don’t want William to have slept with what would most likely be his niece! I keep hearing people all Jane his cousin but Faith was the daughter of Jamie and Claire. William is the son of Jamie. So Faith and William are HALF-SIBLINGS. That means if Jane is the daughter of Faith; Jane is Williams niece! Gross in the extreme.

And here is a test? Ask Fanny if a gemstone sounds like anything to her?
