Jeremiah “Jerry” Walter MacKenzie is the father of Roger MacKenzie, husband of Marjorie Wakefield MacKenzie.
According to Roger’s belief, he was a Spitfire pilot during World War II with the Green Squadron. His plane went down and he was missing in action or MIA. However, it was believed he was killed.
After being shot down, Jerry took a leave to recover from bullet wounds and was recruited by Intelligence Officer Frank Randall. Jerry and three other pilots are tasked with flying low over concentration camps to take phones with cameras mounted on their wings. Before the mission, Jerry is flying in Northumberland when his plane suffers engine failure and he goes down. He’s thrown from the wreck near Craigh na Dun. When he comes to he leans on one of the stones for support and is transported into the past.
Being confused and disoriented, Jerry goes looking for answers but can’t believe what is happening. He attire and manner are so foreign to those he encounters that people beat him and run him off believing he’s a Fae folk.
Roger and Buck hear about Jerry’s dress and seek him out. When they meet him doesn’t give his name but tells Jerry that Buck and he are like him. They are time travelers as well. Roger explains what happened with the stones and wants to help Jerry by sending him back.
Buck is against messing with time knowing Roger never sees his father again. But they help Jerry make his way back to the stones. Roger tells Jerry to think of his wife when traveling, not his son. Jerry is stunned by the revelation that these two know about his family. Right before Jerry goes through the stones, Roger can’t help but tell Jerry that he loves him.
Right after Jerry goes through the stones, Roger seems to remember sitting next to his father in the tube station but Roger confesses he has no other memories of his father so he wonders if Jerry made it back. Roger also believes the reason he came back to 1739 was because he thought of his father, who is Jem’s namesake, right before he went through the stones.
After returning to Fraser’s Ridge, Roger and Brianna go to Savannah to purchase guns from the Continental Army. Roger gets swept up in a battle and is close to a cannon fall. The blast knocks him back and a long forgotten memory comes back to him. During the Blitz, when his mother and he took shelter in the tube station; his father was there. When the station started to collapse his mother called out to his father and threw Roger to him. He remembers being caught by his father. He saved his dad and his dad saved him.
But this begs the question, what happened to Jerry? Did he die during the Blitz too?
