The Frasers and the MacKenzies prepare for battle. The Murrays are met with an impossible choice for their young family.

Muskets, Liberty, and Sauerkraut opens with Jamie and Claire giving Brianna and Roger some gold for the purchase of those guns that was a bad idea just last episode. But then with Cunningham being a British spy and Jamie not knowing who is a Continental and who is a Loyalist, he has to do something. Being prepared enough to give his men guns of their own might go a long way to protecting the Ridge.
Siblings
So the family takes John up on his invite for Brianna to paint Amaranthus and her child. This is the perfect cover for them to get Roger to the Continental Army camp where he wants to buy guns for Jamie’s militia.
When Roger and Bree get there they are hauling sauerkraut to Fergus and Marsali which hides some of the Frenchman’s Gold and whisky. They let Fergus and Marsali in on their plan and then take a break to drink said whisky and talk about this Percy Beauchamp which requested a meeting with Fergus. Bree wonders if he’s a relation of “their mother” Claire as that was her maiden name.
A rock is thrown through the printshop window. Fergus and Roger head outside to see if they can find the culprit but they are long gone. Fergus comments are dangerous times. People don’t always like what he prints even though they are trying to pretend to be neutral.
The Other Brother
Roger does make it to the Army camp but doesn’t get a positive reception and then is stuck there during the battle.
Brianna heads over to Lord John’s place where she is reunited with William who is rather enchanted by seeing her again. They both figure Lord John orchestrated this because of Jamie, but Brianna explains to William it is because they both had similar experiences. Brianna also found out about Jamie when she was practically an adult, and she wasn’t excited about it either. William asks how she came to terms with it and she tells him she got to know him.
Amaranthus notices how naturally close the two seem to be and isn’t a fan. William realizes Amaranthus is jealous and blurts out that Brianna is his sister. She is intrigued and William confesses the circumstances of his birth and how he feels the imposter to the earldom.
Undaunted, Amaranthus suggests that they marry and William can just relinquish his title to their future child rather than worry about it himself. William is caught off guard. Is she not the grieving widow? She’s considered the Viscountess Grey, so she doesn’t lack for anything. Why the “rush” to marry William?
Prince or Pauper
Fergus does meet with Percy Beauchamp who explains Fergus is the son of Le Comte St. Germain and Amelie Beauchamp. Fergus remembers a woman at the brothel named Amelie. Percy explains that Amelie is from an important family. She ran away with the Comte. She was legally married to the man, but when it decided to end the relationship he sold her to a brothel. Okay so I do remember hating St. Germain but my word he’s an evil bastard.
Fergus wants to know what is in it for Percy. Percy explains there is an inheritance as the Comte only son. Oh and St. Germain mysteriously disappeared back when he drank the poison from Master Raymond. Interesting.
Anyways, there is a parcel of land in the Americas that is legally Fergus’s, but Percy’s new family wants to do something with it, and they want to buy it off him.
Reeling from this information, Fergus isn’t keen to claim the Comte as his father and when telling Marsali of the connection says, “Monsieur Beauchamp told me what every orphan wants to hear, that I’m the son of a great man—but I’m already the son of a great man.” To right, Fergus! You are the Prince if Jamie is the King of Men!

Another MacKenzie!
Earlier on in the episode Jamie is told there is a man looking for Roger and Brianna. Jamie and Ian suspect Rob Cameron much like they suspected Roger was Brianna’s rapist back in season four. Only this time when they come up on him, they ask who he is!
Instead of Rob Cameron they find William Buccleigh “Buck” MacKenzie. Buck discloses that he made sure Rob Cameron wouldn’t be an issue. He also comes baring Roger’s wee book on Time Travel.
They all return back to the Ridge were Jemmy and Mandy greet him warmly as “Cousin Buck!”
When we first met Buck, did we ever think we’d love seeing him? I don’t think so and yet I was so happy.
