Recap: 807 Evidence of Things Not Seen

AIRED: April 17, 2026

Jamie and Claire search for answers regarding a past tragedy that once threatened to tear them apart.

Evidence of Things Not Seen brings about drastic deviations from Gabaldon’s books. Some I’m okay with and some less so. I mean it isn’t the first time Outlander has deviated from the source material and sometimes for the better. I know as a reader, I missing Murtaugh immensely in the books so having him in the show for a while longer was a nice change. The Faith story line, I’m less enthusiastic about.

Honestly, I’m beginning to wonder if Outlander will be able to be wrapped up in the next three episodes that are to follow this one. How can we get from here to the end when Gabaldon Herself hasn’t been able to?

But first, Jamie climbs a cliff to Kings Mountain which seemed like a very odd opening overlaid by Frank’s words. But he reports back to Claire that it is real. Claire has wondered if Frank wrote the book to torment her or maybe Jamie but now she wonders if it is a warning.

So Many Lies

William confronts Amaranthus about Ben. Amaranthus confesses she knew about Ben. When he turned his coat she begged him not to, but when he insisted she wanted him to fake his death for his families sake. She wanted a coward who wouldn’t go fighting but it turns out William isn’t that either.

William is determined to tell the truth to John and Hal, but she worries Ben will be hanged. This is when William realizes she still loves Ben despite agreeing to marry him. Oh William. If Ben had been killed then, of course, she still in love with him. And the fact that he’s a traitor in her eyes doesn’t really diminish that love just prevents it.

John walks in on them and it is obvious there is more between them. Uncle Hal is on his way and William tells him about Ben. John then assumes William just told Amaranthus. She tries to tell him, but William interrupts her trying to give her a way out. But she is determined.

John isn’t exactly kind about the news accusing her of seeking wealth—but let’s be real here John she is the wife of Ben and Trevor is the heir apparent.

John waves William off of Amaranthus. William assures John he’s not interested in anyone who deceives him, which clearly includes John.

Another Shock to William

Percy shows up at Lord John’s home with news. He has found Richardson and he is about to arrive in Savannah. John is happy at the news. Percy makes his advances and John’s better judgement leaves him—after all he’s got this big secret, and William is coming and going and Amaranthus is around—come one John.

William walks in just as they are about to kiss and it is just one more shock and secret William can’t deal with. Is William overreacting? Maybe. Is he wrong? I mean in the 18th century it is a huge taboo. William starts putting things together and wonders about Jamie and John’s relationship considering the Ardsmuir Prison connection. John assures him they weren’t lovers. John puts William in his place but William’s reaction is extreme, claiming he has no father.

Why Did Outlander Make Me Cry!!!

We get to see Fergus teaching the boys how to print. It is a wonderful tender father and sons moment. And I have to believe Jamie gave Fergus this lesson himself. Henri-Christian worries about his differences to others but Fergus assure him he is capable of great things. Fergus is such a good daddy now.

In the market, a tomato is thrown at Marsali and a man threatens Fergus.

Fergus and Marsali have been getting hate mail from some person who can’t spell. They make light of it, but it is a serious matter. The two are just enjoying their life and each other. AND are considering more children—my word like they need more, but children are a blessing. In the middle of the night they wake to a fire. They are quick to get out but Germain and Henri-Christian are nowhere to be found. Marsali yells to Fergus that they go to the roof to look at the stars. Fergus races up there finding them. He ties a rope around Germain and tells Henri-Christian to hold on tight to his brother. This even upset me in the book. How was Henri-Christian going to manage that?

Outlander book fans have been waiting for this moment with the hope of a reprieve from the showrunners for poor Henri-Christian because in the books he falls to his death. It is a horrible scene that leaves Germain devastated and feeling guilty for not holding onto his brother.

But the showrunners did give us a reprieve. Roger Mac was there to catch the little boy and save his life. Thank you Roger for being in the right place at the right time! BUT our relief is so short-lived as the roof—where our beloved Fergus was standing—gives way and Fergus falls into the fire. Are you kidding me! Why Fergus? Why did you take our beloved Fergus! I was a mess right along with Marsali and Brianna.

And Jamie wakes up feeling something is wrong. We get that slight magic that Jamie has.

Brianna’s Quiet Strength

Brianna and Roger are sitting stunned. Brianna wants to know if Roger would stay in the past should something happen to her. He assures her nothing will happen to her but that he’ll stay with their family. Roger tells her the four of them belong there. Brianna puts his hand over her stomach and says five.

Brianna goes to Marsali who is watching the children sleep. Brianna sits with Marsali who tells Brianna about the note they received. There isn’t even a body to bury. The two cry together even though Brianna is trying to be strong for Marsali, telling her Fergus is in each of her children.

When Henri-Christian wakes the next morning, he tells her they have to go to the shop and print the paper like Fergus told them they must. The pen is mightier than the sword.

Marsali doesn’t now what she’ll do without Fergus. Brianna reminds her she has a home on the Ridge, but she could take Beauchamp’s offer as Germain is now the legitimate heir. Marsali says Fergus wouldn’t want that. But Brianna knows Fergus would want his family taken care of. But first, she needs to take Fergus home.

So She Was Faith

Despite all the discussions and the speculations the simple answer is that Fanny and Jane’s mother was Faith Fraser. I can’t say I’m happy about this. It is rather and awful turn of events that Jamie and Claire are essentially made to believe their child was dead due to a mix up.

We get to see Fanny talking with Janie at her cairn when Fanny discovers she lost the bit of lace Jane had remaining from their mother. It was something their grandmother made. Fanny doesn’t remember her grandmother, but she was a lacemaker in France.

Jamie and Claire receive a letter and a small package from Ian—how did this package arrive before Ian and Rachel? Ian sent a pamphlet about Jane, but Ian also found the writers notes. Jane knew her mother’s name Faith Pocock and her grandmother’s secret that an Apothecary came to her with a baby. If he didn’t come back then find Lady Broch Turach. But when she went looking the lady has left. So the woman kept the baby. But years later, Faith found out this Lady lived in the mountains of North Carolina, and they were on their way to her when they were attacked by pirates and their parents were killed.

So the terrible story is on their way to meet Jamie and Claire, Faith and her husband were killed, and their granddaughters were sold to a brothel. What a disgusting story. But Jane wants Fanny to know so she has a chance to find their family.

Jamie and Claire are stunned. This is the evidence not seen that Fanny is their granddaughter—meaning William slept with his niece!

Jamie and Claire sit Fanny down and show her Jane’s words and their connection. They explain what they know and that Fanny is their granddaughter. Claire tells her she sang the song to her mother, and her mother shared the song with her. Neither knows how Faith knew the song. Fanny needs time and retreats to her room.

Later, when Claire goes to get Fanny for supper she finds Fanny gone. Jamie and Claire find her at Jane’s cairn, and she confesses she is worried they will die because she loses everyone. “God tells us that faith is the evidence of things not seen.” Jamie wants her to have faith in them.

Terrible News

Back at the house, wagons are coming. Jamie and Claire are excited that Bree and Roger and Fergus and Marsali are home only to realize Fergus isn’t there. Brianna and Marsali bring the news of his death devastating all.

Jamie is making a coffin for Fergus. His grief and sadness overwhelm him as he remembers Fergus. Fanny comes in and tells Jamie to come with her. She started a cairn for Fergus which brings a bit of sadness and joy to Jamie. She calls him Grandda and holds his hand.

What Happened

So we get to the bottom of it. Master Raymond whisked Faith away—maybe in an attempt to do what Claire did for Susanna’s baby? Maybe when the nuns realized the baby was missing they just gave her another? I really don’t know because they don’t tell us that. But essentially, while Jamie was in the Bastille and Claire was dying, Master Raymond had to flee—probably because of the King—and left the baby with his shopkeeper neighbor. When she begins to cry, Master Raymond teaches the woman the song, “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside,” which plays over the ending credits.

So what they are trying to tell us is a series of near misses means they’ve believed for 30 plus years that Faith died and she was living in France this whole time! It is so upsetting for two reasons.

One, why do this? Why cheapen the death of their daughter? Why make it that Master Raymond saved Faith but couldn’t get her back to her mother and father? Why didn’t Raymond give better information? She’s a Fraser. They are Scottish. Something? I mean she could have taken her to Jared Fraser if she’s only known! But that does mean, if Faith had been reunited all those years ago with them—she’d have been either left behind or had to go to the future with Claire.

Two, I actually don’t hate that this is the story for the show. It is kind of magical like Claire. It is sad but brings the joy of a granddaughter to Jamie and Claire. And it is like Jamie and Claire are gathering their family around them. Yes, we lost Fergus, but Brianna and Roger are home. Marsali came home with the kids because she lost Fergus. A piece of Faith is back with them. All we are missing is William. Will he come to the Ridge?

And now that you mention is? What about this Beauchamp connection? This is Claire’s maiden name, and her family ties are in France. Is she related to Percy’s wife’s family? Does that make Fergus and his children distant relations to her? Was their adopting of Fergus just another magical link to Claire?

And the next thing to think about? Can Fanny hear the stones? Could Fergus? Can his children? Holy crap!
