With the Siege of Savannah raging outside the city walls, Brianna and Roger find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict. Jamie confronts his demons at Lodge Night.

Send for the Devil is the halfway point in the show. We are almost to the end of this season and this show. It is bittersweet. I don’t want it to end and yet I know it can’t go on forever. I think one of my favorite things about this season is the mix of knowing what is happening and also not knowing because as book readers we aren’t to the end yet.
Doing the Right Things Comes Back to You
Mr. Whittaker, the man who’s babies and wife Claire save earlier in the season, comes back to the Ridge to warn Jamie. There is a plot by Captain Cunningham to capture Jamie and hand him over to Captain Ferguson who wishes to try him for treason and execute him. Cunningham would then have control of the Ridge. He also warns of a militia coming from Ninety-Six.
Jamie’s mind plays out the scenario for Claire and Buck and surmises it will likely happen after Lodge. To protect himself and the Ridge, Jamie sends Josiah Beardsley to Cleveland to bring back reinforcements. Jamie brings the men he knows are loyal to him. Cunningham won’t bring the fight into Lodge because that would violate the sanctity of it but doing it after is still a betrayal of the brotherhood.
Thwarting the Plot
At Lodge, Jamie has Brother Lindsay close in prayer and while everyone’s heads are bowed and their eyes are closed, Jamie slips out. He makes a break for it. Jamie and his men spread out to stop the traitors.
At the trading post, Hiram Crombie is searching for Jamie, but Jamie comes up on him. I love how terrified the man looks. Jamie approaches looking for Cunningham who has come to talk. Cunningham and Jamie fight and Jamie is stabbed. Cunningham gets the upper hand after a tussle getting a hold of his gun. He’s about to shoot Jamie when Buck shoots Cunningham in the back. Not shameful as Buck is saving Jamie’s life.
But back at the house, Elsbeth is sitting with Claire. She came to pray with her believing her son will be honorable. She quickly finds out her son planned to kill Jamie. Claire patches up Jamie, but Cunningham isn’t so lucky. The shot to the back did considerable damage and he’s likely to spend what is left of his life paralyzed.
Cleveland does show up, after everything is over.
Ben is Alive
Roger is fighting with the Continentals but soon realizes he pretty much just needs to be a minister for the men who are fighting.
Brianna is terrified for Roger. When the fighting is done, William takes her to the camp to find Roger. They are reunited.
While there, William finds his cousin Ben alive and is overjoyed but realizes quickly this means Ben is a Continental. William punches Ben.
